Xalibe Update: Locally owned and operated community forms Nueve Conception Association

Now that construction of the Nueve Conception hospital is complete, the facility is modestly staffed, and residents from Xalibe are receiving treatment.
Families within the village organized and mobilized into village development committees during the construction phase of this project and already have a plan for sustainability. Following the CHOICE model, the plan stipulates that responsibility of the hospital's continued operations lies with local residents. Dedicated to assuring healthcare for their children and children's children, they've created the Nueve Conception Association.
Villagers have the option of buying into the Nueve Conception Association. This acts as an insurance policy and members of the association pay a discounted, subsidized rate when the doctor attends to them. Non-members pay a more expensive, standard rate. Already, four hundred people have signed up to become members. The membership fees and fees for standard hospital visits pay for the operating costs of the hospital. As long as the hospital is treating patients, and thanks to the newly formed association, it will continue to operate as long as locals desire. After a site visit last month, Leah Barker CHOICE CEO says, "It's amazing to see this development. I attribute it wholly to the people in the villages. They are capable beyond words. "
Thank you Spectrum HealthCare for believing in the power of village-driven programs. By helping people help themselves, better results are guaranteed.
Sincerely,
