A family caregiver story: Our angels on earth

Image: A family caregiver story: Our angels on earth

The journey of compassionate care, companionship and light housekeeping began in October 2010 when a family member noticed my mom experiencing challenges not only going up and down steps to the laundry room of her apartment building, but also carrying the laundry.

Seniors for Seniors was recommended by my mom’s Case Manager at CCAC. At that time the visits provided light housekeeping on a bi-monthly basis.

Over the past 4 years, as mom’s dementia progressed more time and services were required. Seniors for Seniors now provides caregivers who prepare meals and provide companionship for my mom seven days a week for three hours per day.

The dedicated Seniors for Seniors caregivers always ensure that someone is there daily for my mom. The many caregivers that have spent time with my mom have all been kind, caring, willing and eager to share the ups and downs of my mom’s day, as we speak on the phone regularly. Gentle suggestions are made to me to add variety to my mom’s meals as well as when we are visiting the doctor to request something to help alleviate her arthritic pain.

They are truly or angels on earth.

Their daily visits allow my mom to remain in her apartment, and our family to carry on with personal responsibilities and interests.
