1.) Can you describe a typical day in your role as Spectrum’s marketing intern?
M: My day starts with a meeting with my manager, Shanie, to outline my priorities and plan the day’s objectives. I spend a significant portion of my time in the office, engaging with partner organizations such as retirement homes to nurture and enhance these client relationships. A key focus of my internship role was to support expansion of Spectrum’s foot care clinics and boost community awareness of our services throughout the Greater Toronto Area, which involved brainstorming and collaborating on strategic visibility initiatives.

2.) What skills have you developed or improved during your internship?
M: Throughout my internship, I have noticed a remarkable growth in my communication skills, driven by the opportunity to engage with a diverse variety of individuals and professionals. This experience challenged me to tailor my communication approach, ensuring that my messages were clear, impactful, and resonated with different audiences.
3.) How would you describe the work environment and culture at Spectrum?
M: From my first day, I felt welcomed and supported by the team. I never hesitated to seek help or clarification, as everyone was approachable and eager to assist. Spectrum fosters a collaborative one-team atmosphere where employees are actively engaged and connected, which is something I deeply appreciate about the company.
4.) What is one thing you’ve learned about yourself during this internship?
M: I’ve learned that I can adapt quickly and excel in dynamic environments. Traveling to various locations for sales and marketing, I discovered a greater flexibility in myself than I initially realized. This adaptability has enabled me to navigate new challenges effectively and make meaningful contributions to the team. Overall, this experience has been both empowering and enlightening, demonstrating my ability to handle diverse tasks.
5.) What is one takeaway from your internship experience at Spectrum?
M: During my internship at Spectrum I understood the importance and crucial role of building and maintaining strong relationships with partners and clients. I learned that effective marketing extends beyond promoting services; it involves creating genuine connections and fostering trust. This approach not only improves our outreach efforts but also cultivates long-term trust and collaboration.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting their first internship at Spectrum, what would it be?
M: My advice is to approach an internship experience with an open mind and embrace new environments confidently. Some of my most valuable learning moments came from stepping into unfamiliar situations and facing their challenges. Though it may be uncomfortable at first, it can lead to substantial personal and professional growth!
