Our real life nursing superhero: Ruth Cartwright, RN
Allow us to introduce you to .....
Ruth Cartwright – Program Manager (Toronto office)
Why did you choose nursing as your career?
I’ve always had the desire to help people and was always intrigued when there was any kind of emergency. Growing up, being around hospitals never bothered me. I enjoyed watching what was going on down the hall or in the next room.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
The part of my job that I like the most is being out in the field with my staff and interacting with patients.
What’s one thing you’ve learned from your patients?
It’s not always what they say but what they don’t say that matters.
What’s something only a nurse would understand?
When you’re on call and you get a call at 3 a.m. to make a visit in the opposite end of the city because a patient has pulled out their pain pump. You replace the line and the patient looks at you with these sweet eyes, calls you by name and says thank you.
What’s your favourite way to recharge?
My favorite way to recharge is lying by a pool in the Caribbean, sipping on a pina colada!
