Our frontline health care workers are Spectrum's heroes. Meet Teresa Cruz, one of our valued Personal Support Workers!

1. What made you decide to be a PSW?

Having a medical background and being a new immigrant in Canada was a stepping stone for me to decide to become a PSW. Being a PSW was a new chapter of my life and definitely one that I am enjoying very much.

2. What is your favourite experience caring for a patient?

When I am with a patient, I give all of the care that I can provide and nothing less.

3. What is so special about working in a home care/community setting as a PSW?

I focus and give all of my attention and compassion to my patients. I try to treat all of my patients like "my own family." Some days are very hard for the patient and some days are fun. I enjoy what I am doing and in the community I hear that PSWs really change people's lives and are the real heroes.

4. What do you like to do when you are not working?

I like to spend quality time with my family and I like to go the gym.
