Happy National Seniors Day!
October 1 is National Seniors Day in Canada.
It is a special day where we recognize older adults and all the contributions that they have made to our country. Seniors are an important part of our families, friendship circles and communities. They provide us with knowledge, wisdom and guidance.
Now more than ever COVID-19 has highlighted the growing issue of senior isolation. It is a serious mental and physical health problem for older adults.
Senior isolation
Senior isolation was a growing issue pre-pandemic but the nationwide call to quarantine has brought the issue of isolation to the forefront. Being isolated reminded us of the importance of social bonds, at any stage of our life. It is especially important for older adults to have friendship and companionship. Seniors who have regular interactions with their family, friends, and social networks are shown to live longer and healthier lives.
Senior companionship
During these unprecedented times essential workers, including senior companions, are continuing to provide care and companionship to seniors all over Ontario. Senior companions can help seniors feel cared for and supported. Whether you need a few hours of drop-in service for your loved one or you require overnight care, Seniors for Seniors' services are customizable depending on your wants and needs. Services include:

Aging at home
With over 40,000 seniors in Canada waiting for beds in long-term care facilities, new facilities can’t be built fast enough as the number of seniors in our population grows. Home care is the solution to these long wait times. 83% of seniors in Canada would choose to stay in their homes if they were provided with the care that they need.
Spectrum Health Care is able to provide home health care to seniors to allow them to age in the comforts of their home. More information about our specialized home care services can be found here.
