Privacy Statement

Spectrum Health Care supports a general policy of openness about personal data collection methods, and use of that data, as required under the current privacy legislation. We have adopted and implemented this privacy policy as part of our commitment to protecting our patient's and client's customers' personal information from any misuse. This privacy policy applies to the storage, use and information-gathering through all channels which are currently or may potentially be used for data collection by Spectrum Health Care. The channels covered by this document include, but are not limited to, web, phone, mail, e-mail and fax. Spectrum Health Care has implemented specific policies and procedures and data management processes to ensure that personal information is collected, stored, retrieved and disclosed in a manner that permits patients to be informed about the use of their personal information.

Personal Health Information

Spectrum Health Care provides you with a broad variety of care services, and in order to meet your needs and serve you well, Spectrum Health Care needs to know personal information about you. As an individual, you have a right to know how we collect, use and disclose personal information and to expect that, to the best of our ability, your personal information held by us remains accurate, confidential and secure. Spectrum Health Care is proud of its long-standing commitment to maintaining the confidentiality and security of personal information and has implemented practices to better protect the privacy of your personal information. Spectrum Health Care collects, uses, discloses and stores facts about you and your health. These facts are collected to help provide health care or payments for health care.

Personal Information

Spectrum Health Care, in the regular course of business, collects data and information on behalf of a wide range of patients. The reasons for data collection are as diverse as our patients, and might include: assisting in resolving a customer query, supplying service information, capturing customer survey data, for account management purposes, registering to receive corporate updates, fulfilling an order for service, or customers taking part in other various customer consultation opportunities.

All Spectrum Health Care staff ensure that the information gathered for various service programs and initiatives are limited to the collection of personal information which is necessary for the specific use intended, and that the knowledge and consent of the individual is obtained for the collection, use or disclosure of personal information.

Patients can take comfort in knowing that all personal information gathered remains their personal property. Patient information will vary from patient to patient and program to program, and may include name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and possibly some demographic information. The personal information captured shall be as accurate, complete, and up-to-date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used.

Third Party Suppliers

In many situations, Spectrum Health Care works with third parties who provide services including but not limited to the provision of internet services, data analysis and management, data keying and a variety of other services. Personal information may be shared or gathered by these third parties, in the course of providing these services to Spectrum Health Care, however these organizations must also adhere to all Spectrum Health Care's policies specific to the privacy of personal information. In all instances, the data remains the property of Spectrum Health Care's patients.

Legal Requirements/Exceptions

Spectrum Health Care may disclose personal information if we are required to do so either by law, to comply with a legal process or government requests, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Spectrum Health Care, its' customers, or the general public.

Individual Access

Any request from any individual or organization is treated with the utmost respect for individual patient confidentiality. Spectrum Health Care will immediately contact the patient to obtain consent for disclosure unless the patient has previously consented in disclosures or agreements. This process ensures the right of the individual under the Privacy Legislation, as well as the patient / service provider confidentiality agreements obtained at the initiation of service.


Spectrum Health Care's policy on personal information usage is straightforward. Spectrum Health Care is the sole manager of patient owned data gathered or received in the course of delivery of personal support or nursing services. Spectrum Health Care does not rent, sell, exchange or otherwise release data to anyone, other than to the patient for whom personal care or nursing care is being provided. This Privacy Policy applies to Spectrum Health Care, its' employees, and its' agents and representatives who may be assisting in the execution or support of service delivery.


Spectrum Health Care uses a variety of security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information in our possession. Spectrum Health Care makes every reasonable effort to ensure that this personal information is maintained in a secure environment. In the case of financial information exchange we use industry-standard, SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. Data is supported in-house on internally maintained servers and are protected by multi-level security including firewalls, the latest anti-virus software, and password protected access to patient data.
